Organ Donor Month

April is Organ Donor Month! Three of the McGinnis family have received kidneys after their kidneys failed due to an hereditary disease. Thirteen years ago this month, Lois received a kidney from a twelve-year-old girl who died from an aneurysm. Her family desired to give life to someone who would not have lived without their daughter’s kidney. In 2005, both Link and Vicki had kidney transplants three weeks apart. They received kidneys from living donors: Vicki’s donor was Traci Edwards and Link’s donor was David Hammontree. There are many on dialysis and on the waiting list for kidneys who are very ill. They cannot work because of being tied to a dialysis machine 4-5 hours per day, three days per week. They require transportation to and from the dialysis clinic, medicine they cannot afford due to not being able to work, and sometimes help with utility bills and groceries. The money donated during this month will be given to the National Kidney Foundation of East Tennessee to help kidney patients meet these needs.

Everyone can’t donate a kidney; however, everyone can donate $1. We are asking our customers to contribute at least $1.00 when you visit any of the Cedar Springs locations this month. The money will be given to the National Kidney Foundation of East Tennessee to help kidney patients. Sometimes we want to help people are in need but don’t know how to go about it. This is your chance to make lives better for kidney patients in East TN.

Thankful to be alive and healthy again,
Lois McGinnis, Link McGinnis and Vicki Geist

P.S. Cedar Springs will add money to go along with the amount contributed by our customers.

167,678 people in East Tennessee are affected by kidney and urinary disease, to find a Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP) screening location click here.

  1. My son has received two kidney transplants: one when he was six years old and a second one when he was 10. Both were from non-living donors. I praise God that the mother and father of the two boys who died were thoughtful enough to donote their organs. My son just graduated high school last May. It is truly a miracle. Please pray for the donor families, they are the silent heroes.

Thank you for raising awareness for organ donation. May God Bless you!!! <

  2. Nice site, thanks for information!
